Frisbee Golf (Frolf)

Once a suburban misfits best kept secret, Frisbee Golf is exploding in popularity in the US, and across the world.

What is Frisbee Golf? (Thanks to Gemini for this list)

Gameplay

Players throw a disc at a basket or target on a course with 9, 18, or 18+ baskets. The goal is to finish the course with the fewest throws possible.

Scoring

Players count one point (stroke) for each throw and penalty. The player with the lowest score wins.

Equipment

Players use golf discs instead of golf balls and clubs.

Low Barrier to Entry

A professional quality disc costs about $15, and only one is needed for basic play.

Goal

Complete domination of your opponents. Or, a jolly good time. Nope, this one wasn’t Gemini.

After playing a handful of rounds over the past month, I am reminded why this sport is so much fun. Similar to typical golf, you wander through a combed mother nature with your friends (or foes) while enjoying competition. The purpose of this newsletter is to encourage readers to go play, and this sport is accessible to all. New players can secure a disc at a local store and visit courses for free to start learning the game.

The sport has been exploding across the world with a focus in the US, Canada and Finland:

  • On average, 5.28 courses are built every day
  • Over 70% of all disc courses were built in the last 10 years
  • There are disc golf courses in over 80 countries worldwide

(“Innova Disc Golf”)

Good news! With all this infrastructure growth. There’s room for thousands if not millions more in this sport. Fall is a great time to start a new hobby, or even just try something new (just like winter, spring, and summer).

Another fun caveat, Frolf (Frisbee Golf) disc names are truly epic. They include and are not limited to: Volt, Reactor, Catalyst, Nitro, Deflector, and Photon.

Buy yourself a Deflector and google search for a course near you.

Parable Rec:

The Maybe Story

Once upon a time there was a Chinese farmer whose horse ran away. That evening, all of his neighbors came around to commiserate. They said, “We are so sorry to hear your horse has run away. This is most unfortunate.” The farmer said, “Maybe.”... finish the parable here

The point of this story is that we don’t know what’s going to happen in the future. What we may think is good, may not be good. What we may think is bad, may not be bad. Transcending this thought pattern allows us to activate our imagination, explore perspectives, and envision new possibilities.
